Save the Zachariah Waters Family Cemetery

September 11, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Please come to a public meeting this coming Tuesday, September 11 at 7:00 pm at the Germantown Library, Room B, to support the preservation of the Zachariah Waters cemetery.

This is a pre-submission public meeting being held by Symmetry at Cloverleaf, LLC to present their plans for development of the property that lies between Century Blvd and I-270 west of Father Hurley Blvd, opposite Kinster Drive in Germantown, Montgomery County, Maryland.

This property includes the Zachariah family burial ground (cemetery) that includes Zachariah (1748-1824), his wife Anna (1758-1837), and their children Baker (1780-1846), Tilghman (1785-1864), and Courtney (1789-1853). Zachariah Waters was a Revolutionary War patriot and one of the three founding brothers of Germantown. Tilghman Waters states in his Will that the burial ground be preserved and that money from his estate be used “to the erection of a proper, suitable and permanent enclosure with iron railing of the family burying ground on my home place in Montgomery County, to the erection of suitable head and foot stones of Italian marble over the remains of my father, mother, brother and sister, reserving and declaring the said piece of ground is to be kept as a place of internment for myself and wife only, and reserving for my family and connections the right of access.”

Symmetry at Cloverleaf’s plan proposes to move the cemetery to another part of the development.
