The Cumberland Historic Cemetery Organization invites all Coalition members to attend our annual Memorial Day Service at Sumner Cemetery, Allegany County’s first all-black cemetery which the CHCO adopted and restored in 1990. In 1991, CHCO built Maryland’s first major monument in honor of six black Union Civil War Soldiers at this cemetery.

The cemetery is located on Yale St. on the east side of Cumberland, just off interstate 68. [Map and directions available here]
