An Afternoon at the Cemetery

October 22 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Dear Friends of Halfway African American Cemetery,

We are inviting you to attend “An Afternoon at the Cemetery,” a fundraiser for the Friends of Halfway African American Cemetery, on Saturday, Oct. 22, from 3 to 5 p.m. (rain date: Sun 10/23). We would love to see you here and have a chance to show you the work going on in the Cemetery. It’s also a chance to celebrate the many volunteers and experts who have helped with this work. Sponsorship and ticket information is on our EventBrite site, ranging from $25 for a ticket to a range of sponsorship levels (listed in the program, acknowledged at the event and on our Facebook page).

As you know, Halfway African American Cemetery was lost for decades. And yet, approximately 400 Black Hagerstonians were buried here in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Work on clearing and restoring the space began in 2020, and has been covered by Hagerstown Magazine, the Herald-Mail, and WDVM.

This backyard fundraiser will feature light food, drinks, special tours of the cemetery, door prizes, a silent auction, and more! We hope you’ll join us to celebrate this special place and to mark the incorporation of the Friends organization.

We hope to see you on October 22!

Sincerely,
Elizabeth Paul
Co-Director, Friends of Halfway African American Cemetery
